Woody Auction will slide into autumn with an American Brilliant Cut Glass auction on Sept. 19, online and live in Kansas

The sale features a unique connection to the legendary entertainer Liberace. Offered will be a stunning pair of 5-light ABCG candelabra known as “The Liberace”

DOUGLASS, KS, UNITED STATES, August 12, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Fans of American Brilliant Cut Glass (ABCG) need to mark their calendars for Saturday, September 19, beginning at 9:30 am Central Time. That’s when Woody Auction will burst into autumn with a fun sale featuring nearly 300 lots, each offered without reserve. The auction will be held online and live in the Woody auction hall at 130 East 3rd Street in Douglass.

One of the highlights of this auction event is its unique connection to the legendary American pianist, singer, actor, and flamboyant entertainer Liberace, famed for blending classical technique with pop appeal. Keen observers will discover a stunning pair of candelabra that are identical in form to a single candelabrum that was sold during the renowned 1988 Liberace Estate Auction.

The magnificent American Brilliant Cut Glass pair of five-light candelabra – known as “The Liberace” – measures 20 inches by 14 inches by 14 inches and features a well-cut hobstar and swirled prism motif, plus elegant silver plate fittings marked Meriden #3270, and ten spring-loaded candle holders with reticulated silverplate shades. The estimate is $2,500-$5,000.

Liberace owned many pieces of American Brilliant Cut Glass, but his finest example was a similar single candelabra in this exact form, as shown on page 63 of the 1988 Liberace Collection Auction catalog, which is included in the sale. This truly great set, weighing 32.2 pounds, is from the collection of Mitchell Caughman of Colorado, a dedicated ABCG collector.

Another outstanding lot is the three-part ABCG vase in the Empress pattern by Quaker City, 28¾ inches tall, a nearly flawless example boasting great size and cutting, with excellent blank. The vase comes from the Moore family out of Nevada. It’s the first time the vase has been offered to the public since 1909 – a period of nearly 120 years. It’s estimated to command $2,500-$4,000.

Another gorgeous ABCG vase is a 12-inch-tall beauty in the Rose Diamond pattern by Meriden, also from the Mitchell Caughman Collection. It’s an outstanding example, featuring a lovely step cut neck, and hobstar base. Weighing 5.3 pounds, the vase is expected to sell for $1,500-$3,000.

Certain to attract keen bidder interest is an ABCG novelty three-piece lamp that could easily be transitioned to kerosene with one metal fixture replacement. The lamp is 21½ inches tall and has a pattern matched hobstar, cane, prism and fan motif and globe-shaped shade. Included is a flower center-shaped base with skirted front. Folks are encouraged to review all the lot photos to determine just how the font makes this lamp a working unit. It has an estimate of $750-$2,000.

A round ABCG tray, signed Libbey in the Marcella pattern, measuring 10 inches in diameter and weighing 2.9 pounds, is yet another piece from Mitchell Caughman. It should hit $1,000-$1,600.

Also carrying a pre-sale estimate of $1,000-$1,600 is a large ABCG demijohn jug, 16¼ inches tall, with a well-cut hobstar, vesica, cane, crosscutting and star motif, as well as a triple-notched handle, step cut neck, ray cut base and matching number stopper. The jug weighs 8.7 pounds.

Lot #18 consists of two Brilliant Period Cut Glass (BPCG) rock crystal decanters, each one 14¾ inches tall and featuring a finely engraved tropical bird and floral design, plus pattern engraved stoppers. The magnificent pair, weighing 3.3 pounds, has a pre-sale estimate of $750-$1,500.

An ABCG round tray, 14½ inches in diameter, from the Robert H. Meyer Estate Collection out of South Dakota, has four alternating sections of hobstar, crosscutting, nailhead diamond, vesica and wreath motif; and an extra-thick blank. It weighs 10.2 pounds and should make $750-$1,500.

An ABCC bowl in the Waldorf pattern by Clark, 9¼ inches in diameter, is finely cut and boasts an excellent blank. It weighs 4.6 pounds and is expected to change hands for $750-$1,200.

An ABCG two-part pedestal punch bowl, 13¾ inches by 12 inches by 12 inches, with hobstar, vesica, cane, crosscutting and nailhead diamond motif, 20.2 pounds, should realize $650-$1,000.
